The Lakers sucked badly Sunday night against the Rockets.  They were flat all night and Kobe looked bad down the stretch with a lingering groin injury.  It was another revenge game, for the Lakers snuck by Houston in a 7 game series in last year’s playoffs.  This also featured the matchup of swapped forwards, Ron Artest and Trevor Ariza.  Ariza looked good on defense and Artest had his best game as a Laker.  Only Laker that had a good night.  To boot, Luke Walton’s injured and will be gone for around 6 weeks.  Will those minutes go to Adam Morrison?  F-in’ Morrison, kid was one of the biggest stars in college ever, and he’s a total egg in the pros.  He was such a rock star in Gonzaga, WTF?  He can shoot, can’t he?  I wanna see this kid make some jumpers.

I want to see Pau Gasol play today.  He’s not going to, maybe next game on Thursday vs. the Bulls.  Saw him last night on CSI:Miami, on which he totally sucked.  He has no acting skills whatsoever, which is surprising since he’s a very intelligent dude in interviews, especially impressive since English is not his first language.  But alas, he can’t act.  He was just some tall dude named Victor that was in a car accident.  And then later he died in a holding cell from some kind of latent shake up to the brain from the crash, and I wasn’t too sorry to see him go.  He was just laying on the ground, dead, and I was thinking, get yo ass up and go play some ball!

Detroit’s in town today.  I remember when the Lakers got crushed by Detroit in the finals not so long ago.  That was when the Lakers had Shaq, Kobe, Mailman and the Glove, 4 hall of famers that weren’t playing together as the best team and got beat.  But Detroit’s  not nearly the same team anymore.  They had their run.  No Chauncey, no Rasheed, AI has come and gone and now in Siberia for the twilight of his career.  Who’s left on Detroit?  Tayshaun Prince, the tall skinny ugly dude with the freckles, he’s still there.  He’s pretty good, as is the masked man, Rip Hamilton.  But those two mainstays are hurt for tonight’s game, so they’ll depend on their new acquisitions Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva, bound to still be adjusting to their new team.  Ben Wallace is back for them, but he’s old and a defensive presence only.  I have no fear of the Pistons.  The Lakers should whup their ass, with or without Pau Gasol.

The Game – Lakers vs. Pistons

Yes, the Lakers won the game, rather handily, stopping their two game skid.  Kobe bounced back with an excellent game, his 100th 40 point game in his career.  The Lakers did not play well in the 4th quarter but they had such a huge lead that they were able to absorb their shoddy play.  It’s amazing in the NBA how fast the tide can change.  The Lakers were up 28 at one point and the Pistons went on a 4th quarter run to cut the thing to 7.  20 point turnaround in one quarter!  From a shorthanded team, at that.  The Lakers have a target on their backs as defending champs and need to play an entire 60 minutes to pull out victories.  Good news though, Pau Gasol is about ready to go and is looking to play in Thursday’s game vs. the Bulls.

Lakers will be playing the baby Bulls tonight.  The Bulls have lost Ben Gordon to free agency and will depend on their young talent, especially Derek Rose.  That guy is real fast and real good.  But the big news for the Lakers is that Pau Gasol will play tonight.  Finally!  First game of the year for him, curious to see how he does.

The Game – Lakers vs. Bulls

The Lakers smacked the hell out of them Bulls.  Gasol came out like a bat out of hell with 10 quick points in the first quarter.  He wound up having a real good night in his first game of the year.  How is that possible?  He says that his teammates make it easy for him.  I say he’s just that good.  He’s like the most skilled big man in the league and an impossible matchup for anybody.  Hooks with both hands, cleaning up the boards for tip-ins, the game comes easy for him.  Phil Jackson was looking like a happy dude with his second best player back on the floor.  I got a happy grin on my face too.  Now we’re getting a look at the Lakers at full strength.  This is the championship team from last year.  Kobe has great chemistry with Gasol and they provide the best 1-2 punch in the league.  Now with 2 dominant 7-footers (Bynum & Gasol) + Kobe, and you got a team that’s almost impossible to beat.
