The Lakers play the Golden State Warriors tonight in Oakland.  As far as I know, the Warriors suck.  Who they got?  Monta Ellis is pretty good, he’s putting up great numbers this year, but I can’t name another player on Golden State.  I expect a victory tonight, hopefully it’s an easy one so they can turn around and play NJ tomorrow night at home in their Sunday whites.

The Game – Lakers at Golden State

After watching the game, I can name a couple more Warriors: Corey Maggette, Rony Turiaf, Vladimir Radmonovich (the latter two being former Lakers).  Big whup, they all sucked tonight, and the Lakers whupped some ass in a 30 point blowout.  They’re just too big for the Warriors (and most everyone else) and just ran away with the thing, not really a contest.  Pau Gasol had a nice game, especially in the 1st quarter when he got 12 points and 3 blocks.  Kobe wasn’t that great tonight but he still got his points because he’s awesome.  It was mostly mop-up tonight, an easy victory, just the way I like it.

The New Jersey Nets are in town and they’re 0-16.  They suck.  They’re teetering on an NBA record for futility.  Who they got?  They got Devin Harris and the kid Brook Lopez, but that’s about it.  Lawrence Frank (little Opie) has caught the blame and they fired his ass this morning, leaving some guy that nobody knows to coach the Nets.  The Lakers are playing the 2nd of a back to back, coming home from Oakland, but that should be no problem.  They’re in their Sunday whites and they better kick some ass.  It would be mighty embarrassing if the Lakers, defending champs, were to give New Jersey their first win of the season.

The Game – Lakers vs. Nets

The Lakers jumped out to a 27-12 lead after the 1st, boosted by a 21-2 run.  The Nets bricked most of their shots, shooting about 25%.  The 1st quarter ended with Jordan Farmar hustling to block a breakaway layup attempt, giving the Lakers a nice momentum boost.  2nd quarter was more of the same, as the Lakers went into the half with a 59-34 lead.  Lakers were busy executing while the Nets were busy sucking.  Good defense from the Lakers but it’s no wonder that NJ is the lowest scoring team in the league.  2nd half was more of the same with the bench playing the entire 4th quarter in extended garbage time.  Easy victory for the Lakers in a blowout from the start.  On a historical note, the Nets have tied the worst for an NBA team ever at 0-17.  But notice how easy the victories have been with Gasol back?  Yes, he’s that good, 2nd best player on a loaded squad.  He’d be the best player on most teams but we got this dude named Kobe Bryant.

On a side note, FS West showed a classic Laker game, game 7 of the 1988 finals with the Pistons.  It was totally awesome.  I got to see Magic and Kareem and James Worthy (who got a triple double, in a game 7!).  There’s Magic and Isaiah kissing, which is totally gay, with Isaiah lucky not to catch the AIDS.  Isaiah was hurt with a severely sprained ankle, thus the Pistons lost.  Lakers won the championship that year, the year that Pat Riley guaranteed a repeat championship.  Lot of pressure for ‘em, but they came through.  Got to see the champagne flow, which was very very nice.  Man, the Lakers of the ‘80s were a true dynasty, 5 championships in the decade.  Hope we can have that kind of success with the current team.

The Lakers play the New Orleans Hornets tonight in yet another home game.  The Hornets look sad as hell this year, even with their awesome point guard Chris Paul.  But he’s out, leaving backup Darren Collison, UCLA Alumn, to run the point.  He’s a pretty good rookie actually, curious to see how he does in this game.  Their #1 option wo/ Paul is David West, someone who’s not playing nearly as well as he was a couple years ago.  Earlier this season, the Lakers whupped the Hornets’ ass something awful.  What happened to the Hornets?  They fired coach Byron Scott, who got the big stiff shaft, sucks to be him.  He ate it, badly.  The New Orleans Hornets suck with a passion.  They’re nothing like their NFL counterparts, the New Orleans Saints, which issued a complete beatdown of the Patriots on Monday Night Football last night.  I enjoyed that very much, seeing Belichick surrender like that.  Drew Brees is awesome, the most accurate QB in the NFL.  I’ve liked New Orleans ever since Catrina, I wanna see them go undefeated and in the Superbowl, they’re just a fun and exciting team.  Anyhoo, Lakers should win tonight going away.

The Game – Lakers vs. Hornets

After a close 1st quarter, the Lakers got it going and whupped some ass in the 2nd with 4 starters in double figures scoring (Kobe, Pau, Ron-Ron and Bynum) and took a 20 pt lead into the half, 62-42.  They maintained that lead for the 3rd in double extended garbage time, sending in the bench for the last of it.  Cruised on to victory.  The funny thing is, there’s this deal where when the opposing team gets under 100 pts, then there’s free tacos for everyone in the stadium.  And the Hornets were deliberately trying to spoil such spoils, fouling down the stretch and extending the game to try to get to a hundred.  Those sadsacks came up short though, Lakers won 110-99.  Free tacos!!!

The Lakers play the Miami Heat tonight, once again at home.  The Heat are playing the 2nd of a back to back after getting pummeled by the Denver Nuggets last night.  Man, the Nuggets look good, with Carmelo Anthony having an MVP-like season.  Don’t wanna run into them in the playoffs again as they are definitely better than last year.  As for the Heat, they’re not that great, they just ride the coattails of their one great player, Dwyane Wade.  Wade is awesome but the Lakers should overwhelm the Heat with their depth and size up front.  I would like to see a beatdown tonight.

As far as the Ron Artest jackass watch: Ron was quoted as saying that he used to drink Henessy during halftime of games while he was playing on the Bulls many years ago.  That he’s spilling the beans about it now because he wants to send a good message to the kids about what not to do.  I sure do empathize with Ron-Ron.  Me, I love the hard stuff as well.  Man, is it hard not to throw one back after I been working up a sweat.  Especially when I play some basketball and get real winded.  I just think, “Man, could I pound one down right now!  That’ll kick my game up another notch!”  Well, of course not.  WATER seems to do the trick for me.  I imagine hard liquor would mess with your game, seriously. I do love the hard stuff for real though, especially some scotch on the rocks, but I like it when I’m relaxing, chilling out, listening to some music or something.  In fact, I like drinking when I’m watching basketball.  But I don’t like drinking when I’m playing basketball.  That’s just some idiotic drunken bullcrap right there.

The Game – Lakers vs. Heat

It was a hotly contested 1st half, despite Kobe getting in foul trouble early and Wade being ineffective.  I see that Lamar Odom is shooting the 3 better this year.  He’s got Craig Hodges in his back pocket coaching him.  Hodges was a great 3-pt shooter back in the day, on some of those Bulls dynasty teams with Michael.  I believe he still holds the highest score ever at the All-Star 3 pt shooting contest.  Let’s see if Lamar can learn a thing or two from him and keep this up for the rest of the year.  The game came alive at the end of the 2nd quarter as Kobe and Wade got it going.  Wade had two highlight dunks at the end of the half.

The 2nd half was even more hotly contested.  Lakers looked like were pulling away at one point, but the Heat came back and the game was really really close down the stretch.  The final couple of minutes were something to remember.  Kobe and Wade fought it out in an epic battle of superstars.  At one point, there were about 12 seconds left and the Heat were up by 4.  I was about to pack it in at this point.  Coming out of a time out, the Lakers executed a set play to get Derek Fisher an open 3.  He drained it.  Yes, Fisher made another big shot, the Lakers now down by 1.  They foul Dwyane Wade.  He misses the first.  Phew.  He makes the 2nd.  Another timeout.  Lakers now down by 2 and with about 6 seconds left, the ball has to go to Kobe.  He struggles to get open but does, though it’s pretty far from the bucket.  With Wade on him, he dribbles around beyond the arc, gets to the middle of the arc, lets it go with time expiring in a prayer of a shot and… it banks in!!!  The crowd goes nuts, the Lakers team goes nuts, I go nuts.  Miracle finish for the Lakers, dejected Heat and dejected Dwyane Wade.  Ha ha.  Sucks to be you.  Lakers are riding a 7 game winning streak (no losses since the return of Pau Gasol) for an NBA leading 15-3 record.
