The Lakers play the Suns tonight in their Sunday whites.  Beating the Suns is always fun, ever since they whupped our derriers in 7 games in the playoffs a couple years back, before the coming of Pau Gasol.  With Gasol on the team, we dominate them.  Steve Nash is having a good year thus far, looking like he did in his MVP seasons.  He’s still dishing and swishing.  I like that kooky Canadian.  But I expect another beatdown such as the one we issued the Suns earlier this year.  Hopefully the Lakers can ride the momentum from last game’s miracle finish.

The Game – Lakers vs. Suns

The first half was pretty close for most of it, with the Lakers taking a 54-44 lead into halftime, Kobe knocking in 15.  Steve Nash has found some kind of Canadian fountain of youth, for he looks real good out there, real quick.  The dude’s like 36 years old.  That’s old, man!  That’s older than me, and any athlete that’s older than me is getting on in years.  Athlete years are like dog years.  Yet, he’s leading the league in assists, pretty impressive.  Ron Artest had a good first half as well, making good passes and defending real hard, forcing a couple turnovers.

The 3rd quarter featured some ass-kicking by the Lakers as they took a 87-66 lead.  Said ass kicking was a team effort from everyone on the floor, Artest making more nice defensive plays.  He ended the game with 5 steals.  4th quarter was mostly mop-up as the Lakers cruised on to victory.  They now have a 3 game lead in the division.

The Lakers play the Utah Jazz tonight, at home again.  The Jazz must hate us after the past couple of years in the playoffs.  We merely view them as a tough opponent for we won those series, but to the Jazz it’s a rivalry and they’re out to get us.  It’s not happening tonight, though.  The Jazz rely on Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer, their supposed answer to Stockton-Malone.  Their current duo is not bad, pretty good actually, but it’s not gonna be enough to get the Lakers.  Lakers got too much depth, too much length, too much skill.  The depth’s gonna really show tonight since Utah’s bench is banged up.  They’ll either call on a bunch of nobodies or make the starters play heavy minutes.  Note: we have not lost since the return of Pau Gasol.  That’s 9 in a row.  Let’s make it 10 in a row tonight.

The Game – Lakers vs. Jazz

The Jazz came out in ugly green uniforms.  I haven’t seen ‘em all year so is this their alternative jersey for the season?  They look ridiculous, like a bunch of overgrown leprechauns.  But Utah came out tough, and it was a struggle for the entire first half.  Close throughout and solid halves for the usual suspects, Williams, Boozer, Kobe, Pau.

The third quarter saw some runs.  Utah jumped out to an 8 point lead that was quickly erased when LA went on a run of their own.  Lakers wound up outscoring the Jazz by 6 in the quarter and took a 2 pt lead into the final quarter.  They then decided to turn it on in the 4th and they kicked the holy hell out of them Jazz, going on a 20-0 run.  OUCH.  I’m still not sure how they did it, it happened so fast.  It was a tough game until then.  Did the Lakers wear them out?  I say yes.  When it really counted, Lakers dominated.  Sets up nicely for the game in Utah on Saturday.
