The Lakers cleaned up the last two games over two terrible teams.  They played in New Jersey on the 19th, kicked their derriers.  New Jersey’s the worst team in the league with only 2 wins thus far.  The Lakers have 22.  It was surprisingly close in the first half, but in the second half, the cream rose to the top.  They played amongst an East coast snowstorm.  Then on the 20th, they put a beatdown on Detroit who were playing short handed (Rip Hamilton was out.)  The Lakers got a big lead in the 1st half and it really wasn’t a contest.

4-1 on the road trip, I’ll take that.

The Lakers play the Oklahoma Thunder tonight at home. Shouldn’t be much of a contest, though the Thunder do have Kevin Durant. He’s an awesome young player, awesome scorer, among the league leaders. He’s so damn skinny he looks like an Ethiopian. I don’t understand how he can play so good being so slight.

The Game – Lakers vs. Thunder

Lakers did not play well in the 1st half.  Kevin Durant played real good before he got into foul trouble.  Oklahoma ran up and down the court, ran the Lakers out of the gym.  Defensive play was weak.  Thunder had the lead up to 12 at one point, then the Lakers played a little defense to make a run, Thunder came up to get the lead at the half 61-54.  Kobe kept them in it with 18 first half points.

The Lakers played much better at the start of the 3rd quarter, the time when champions are made.  They held a small lead going into the 4th.  There was a scary moment in the 4th when Kobe twisted his knee.  The Staples Center crowd got real quiet.  Luckily everything was okay, and then he got elbowed in the chops.  Guy takes a pounding but he’s so tough.  The teams duked it out down the stretch and the Lakers took it 111-108.  Kobe had a 40 spot.

What can I say?  The Lakers got beat and got beat bad at home by the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Shame we had to watch such a shoddy effort on Christmas day.  I was all looking forward to it and everything.  Kobe says we were outworked and I believe him.  Lakers have a target on their backs being the champions and all and in this case, that target was rather large.  Maybe it was all the holiday stuff going on at home that threw off their focus.  Cleveland was ready to make a big statement that they are championship contenders this year.  In a classless move, some of the disgruntled fans threw their foam fingers onto the floor, which were given out for free before the game.  Come on people, that made LA look bad!  Lose with dignity, there’s plenty more games left in the season.  It’s just one game.  The Lakers are now 23-5, tied with Boston for best record in the league.
