The end of the year brings lots of lists. The lists are countless. Best games of the year for iPod Touch? There’s thousands of games available. So what’s the best of the best? Here’s a pretty nice list from toucharcade.com. Still a lot of games to go through!
Toucharcade’s best of the year is Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor. I can see that, it’s an excellent game. It’s tailor made for the iPod with nice touch controls. In it, you control a spider and you go around spinning webs, trying to nab stuff to eat and then munching on them. It’s a whole lotta fun. What’s nice about it is that it’s open ended so you can spend your time spinning beautiful webs, or you can go after munchies. See a gameplay demo at toucharcade.
My best of the year is Homerun Battle 3D, which received our coveted Golden Bucket Award. It made Toucharcade’s best of the year as well and is IMO the best online pick and play game available for the iPod. Just tremendous fun, I still play it often. Such a skill game, gotta keep working on it. Still my favorite app!
Also excellent are the two Need for Speed driving games. The iPod Touch makes an excellent steering wheel and with a nice form fitting case such as the Incase Slider, the feel is very nice. Need for Speed: Undercover is an arcade racing game with a storyline, complete with full motion cutscenes. Need for Speed: Shift is more of a racing simulation but still with somewhat of an arcade feel. It does away with all storylines (some found them to be cheesy) and makes you a straight racer. Shift is much more difficult than Undercover but there are driver assists, such as green arrows that show you the best line, and assists in steering and braking that keep it more on a casual gaming level. An excellent game (the best mobile racing game to date) that I need to sink my teeth into some more.
