Sennheiser was well represented at Pepcom Digital Experience 2010 as we spoke with one of their engineering reps.  Among the headphones on display was the RS 180, touted as the best wireless headphone.  A quick listen revealed no obvious wireless deficiencies.  No static, no noise, no interference, just the music with complete wireless freedom.  Sound was nice with good bass response, the open-aire system providing a realistic soundstage.  There was some kind of tinniness going on in the highs though I would need more detailed listening to confirm (the show floor is not the best place to audition headphones).  But come on, these are wireless headphones, some compromise in sound is inevitable.  They were silky comfortable though as is to be expected from a Sennheiser headphone.

Also on display were sports earbuds, developed in conjunction with Adidas Germany.  Weatherproof, sweat-proof, these things are virtually indestructible through regular use, especially while jogging.  The higher end sports model is the PMX 80, with a wraparound neckband and vertical in-ear transducers for nice comfort and fit.  The other set is the CX 680, with tabs that hook in the ear to keep them secure for even the bounciest of joggers.  Sound quality to be determined.

HD800_ZoomPrivate Also mentioned was the HD800, Sennheiser’s entry for world’s finest headphone.  At $1400, they better be good, a TOTL reference headphone if ever there was one.  They were not on display for such a fine object should not be subjected to the tortures of the show floor.  I wish I could get my hands on a pair.
