Let’s not get into a theoretical discussion about plasmas and LCDs. Really. Let’s suspend the argument for just a moment and all agree that plasma sets provide better blacks than LCDs.

Seriously…

Black is the most underrated color when it comes to TV sets and the average consumer just doesn’t look for it. Rather, they look for things like contrast and vivid colors. Those are important, but black provides depth not just for dark scenes, but for more vibrant colors as well. Without black, it would be difficult to create color gradients and provide that depth of color that we all enjoy in movies. Not only for color gradients, but for fantastic contrast, you need really great black reproduction.
