Casio is getting in on the projector game.  They are using a laser and LED hybrid that yields a smaller and more durable projector intended for business presentations (pictured above).  There is no lamp, thus there is no mercury.  Mercury lamps lose 50% of their brightness after 3000 hours while Casio’s business projector only loses 5% of its brightness after 3000 hours.  The laser is estimated as having a life of 3 years or 6000 hours.  These are initial specs and are subject to change.

Casio also presented a pair of “concept projectors”, engineering samples that may or may not appear as they do here.  They’re tiny and are estimated as delivering more lumens than similarly sized pico projectors (generally about 8-12 lumens).  Price points are unavailable at this time though they should be aggressively priced in the marketplace.

The sample business projector (which is very small and thin) was projecting on a wall.  The colors were washed out (though greens were okay) and it was only projecting in VGA.  This projector is not intended for home theater use; rather it is meant for PowerPoint presentations and is able to fit in your briefcase.  It is meant for business applications.  It should be able to provide a decent price to performance ratio.
