It’s hard to see what is particularly new or innovative at CES. There are a lot of consumer class products and plenty of me-too’s. So, when a company like iaPeel calls you over to their booth, you can’t help but be skeptical. When you first look at it, it’s just a simple iPod skin that you can print any design you want on. Nothing fancy to see here, right? Ready to move on, right?
Wrong.
iaPeel, while looking like a regular skin, has perhaps the most innovative method of getting a skin on that we at Tech Bucket Blog have ever seen. You might be thinking now, really? Are you kidding me? Maybe, but history tells us that the simplest perhaps least innovative devices have some of the most thought behind them.
Take a look, it doesn’t seem all that fancy. It’s something you feed into your printer, pick your design and click print. That’s it.
The material itself is pretty standard. There’s not much to say about it, but because it’s completely customizable, you can do some pretty outrageous things like:
Turn the printed skin around and you’ll find the real innovation. There are simple fold up tabs that guide where your iPod should go. You place your iPod in those tabs and a simple few peels and turns and presto! The skin is on. Just like that. No muss, no fuss.
That’s why, iaPeel is mentioned and some of other skins are not. iaPeel stands out where other merely blend in or go for fancy licensing. The magic tabs are simply a stroke of some well thought out, inventive genius. I like it.
