A laser based pocket/pico projector that lasts 2 hours on a single charge? Sounds cool right? Almost sci-fi, but Microvision’s got it. We first spied it at CES this year and there so many people at the booth, we hardly could get a peek of it.

Microvision’s at MacWorld this year, and with the smaller crowd, we managed to push our way in for a closer look and it’s impressive.

Sporting 10 lumens, it looks brighter though. The reason? Ben Averch, Global Product Marketing Manager for Microvision, explains that laser light is perceived by the brain to be almost 50% brighter than it actually is, so what you get is someone like me thinking it’s a brighter image when it’s still sporting 10 lumens.

As we’ve been saying, lumens aren’t everything as the number is somewhat subjective as the folks from Epson explained already.

Still, this projector has some impressive features. The ability to project onto any surface, curved or flat, along with a 200″ maximum image size, rounds out the feature set. The throw distance is on a 1:1 ratio, meaning that for each inch, you’re looking at 1 inch or distance. For 200″ that’s about 16ft throw distance in a completely darkened room. MSRP is around $500, shipping sometime in March 2010.
