How could I walk past a booth at MacWorld showing UWB and Wireless USB? I couldn’t that’s how. Wisair (“wi” like WiFi, “sair” like “s-air”), provides one of the only (if not the only) single chip UWB solutions on the market today.

The demo showed a MacBook connected over Wireless USB to a screen just a few feet away. Running full 1400-x1050 resolution and capable of displaying 720p video, it’s a nice solution and certainly something that I was happy to see at MacWorld Expo.

After speaking with the folks at their booth, they tell me that 1080p is not too far away and performance will only get better. They’re working real hard to get UWB on-board to as many laptops as they can. Of course nothing could be confirmed on the floor as far as potential OEMs go, but if you look around you’ll see a few of their OEM customers around.

UWB is not dead as many critics have panned. We’ve said time and time again that with wireless USB just starting to hit the market, UWB is slowly starting to find it’s stride. Lenovo and Dell have already announced that some of their laptops will have UWB radios onboard, so it’s really time for critics to stop panning this technology and find out more about it.
