I admit, I cheated. I didn’t eat exclusively emergency food like I was supposed to today. I had some leftover chicken soup my mom brought me over the weekend and I dug into for an early lunch today.

Not a lot of soup though, just about half a bowl’s worth, so I wouldn’t say broke rules that bad. Besides, I’d have to clean out my fridge first if I were to lose power anyways!

I did have the eggs and bacon for breakfast, along with the sweet and sour pork for a late dinner though.

The eggs are typical of powdered eggs. It reminded me of the same breakfasts I had at camp growing up. Really no difference, except these were hotter, less wet, and I poured the water myself.

If you’ve never had powdered eggs, then consider yourself lucky. It’s like eating a cooked up protein shake mixed in with a pack of fake egg mix that they sell. It’s not gross, but if you’ve had fresh eggs before, you’ll know you’re not getting the real thing. If you’re used to eating fake eggs, then these will taste like eggs to you.

Sweet and sour pork actually tasted almost exactly like the TV dinner you get at the store. It smells like cheap take-out Chinese food, but doesn’t taste as good. There’s no doubt that you’re getting an “Americanized” version of the “Americanized” Chinese food.

A step above airplane food for sure, but between real food and frozen food. I guess that means this stuff is pretty good actually. Put it this way, if I had a choice between this stuff and cup-ramen, I’d take this stuff every time.

Hot food makes a big big difference. For me, everything was normal today and the food really didn’t bog me down like it did last week. I actually felt like I was eating regular food and that’s a huge plus for me.

The pack says that you can re-hydrate with room-temp/cold water in an emergency, but I didn’t try it. Maybe tomorrow.

Food bars or this? Easy choice, if my situation allows for a choice. Freeze dried foods.
