Raging Thunder Lite from Polarbit is a great example of excellent controls and some quality graphics and sounds on Android. Something other developers can look to and say “hey! I should do that”. (Yeah, not all do, though!)

Lite means it’s free. So you can race one race in single player mode. Controls are really easy and smooth. Just tilt your phone to turn the car. That’s it. No gas or brake controls. Pick-up power-ups to go faster and get a nitro burst, or just take the corners without wiping out and you’ll do fine.

Sound is awesome and the techno music will have you bopping your head. If the on-screen action isn’t enough to get your heart pumpin’, the music will.

Graphics remind me over classic Ridge Racer or PC’s old school Screamer racing games. It’s pretty good 3D, if not simple. Still, you’ll think you were playing one of the last N64 racers or a real early PS2 arcade racer (not GT series). That’s not bad and it shows Android can do it.

The sense of speed is well done as the view gets appropriately blurry as you go faster and faster. That being said though, the race car that you get is a dog. It’s like you were given a Yugo while everyone else has got LeMans racing machines.

It might be because we’re looking at the free Lite version and until I get better at it, I probably won’t upgrade.

Still, for a quick game while I’m in line or waiting for something, Raging Thunder Lite is a great time killer with a great price (free!!!!).

Give it a download, you’ll be pretty happy you did.
