Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for video game-to-movie translations. Really! Some turn out pretty good, like the Resident Evil Series. Yes, predictable, but the action is pretty good and it’s not a terrible popcorn flick.

But others, start with a pure profit-making mindset. After all, if the game made a ton of money, then it just makes sense that the movie will do well too. At least the fanboys of the game will come watch, right?

Yeah…just like movie inspired games hardly ever work out, the reverse holds true as well. Yup. Video game movies can be real stinkers.

So, we were inspired to take a look at three horridly bad video game-to-movie makes that should never have been made.

First up? Who could forget Super Mario Brothers The Movie? The movie came out a whole 12 years after the game hit the NES and it should’ve never gotten made.

Somewhere between the opening credits and the following 20 minutes, the entire movie moves away from the video game. The only thing that holds even a shred resemblance to the game is that there are two plumbers (brothers) and they’re trying to save a girl (who you don’t know is a princess yet). That’s it. It’s slowly revealed that Bowser is really a lizard in disguise.

It just gets creepier and creepier from there.

Yeah there are jump “boots” and flame-throwers, but with where the movie was going, they didn’t have the decency to throw Mario and Luigi hopped up on ’shrooms in there.

Seriously, it’s bad. You don’t even get a “our princess is in another castle” moment. The worst part? Luigi gets the girl. C’mon, Luigi???? How far from the game can you get?

Sadly, this moment never happens on film

Bye-bye to any Oscar hopes in their lifetimes

Still, if you find this movie for $1 in the bargain bin, pick-it up. It’s worth that, but ask the store to discount you the sales-tax. It’s not worth a penny more than a buck.

Here’s the trailer. It’s better than the movie. Yeah, it’s one of those flicks.

Here’s a better idea, don’t pay for it at all. Someone was kind enough to slap the darn thing up on YouTube. So, yeah, now you gotta decide if 2 hours of your life is worth this piece of crap.

Well, is it?
