Ever wonder where all your money went? I do all the time. That’s why I got iXpenseIt. iXpenseIt is awesome.
Loads of little nifty features and you’ll keep discovering more even after you think you’ve gotten them all down. One of the features it has is to preset defaults for entering new expenses. I set this to default to food. C’mon, be honest. We spend the most time in our lives doing 3 things. Eating, sleeping and pooping. I don’t really need to keep a track of the last two, but at least I can track my eating as far as cash money goes.
Setting food as my default category and I set lunch as the subcategory. This lets me enter my burrito expense in a matter of seconds, quickly and often. It also lets me list an expense as recurring so I only need to enter it once and I love me my burritos.

A good expense tracking app needs to be 3 things:
- It needs to be everywhere or you won’t remember to record your expenses – the iPhone is perfect for this.
- It needs to be easy to enter the expense or you won’t even bother – no clumsy interfaces.
- It needs to give you back useful information or again why bother.
iXpenseIt lets me set a monthly budget and keep an eye on it, so I can see if I am on target. The reporting lets me break it all down in a bar chart, pie chart or summary view. All of this information is easily exportable to HTML or .csv file so you can start running pivot tables and whatever other analysis tools you want to run over the number.
This app pretty much pays for itself as you will end up saving money…at least when you figure out your budget!
(Editor’s Note: Check out the fancy 3G connection I’m sportin’. It didn’t last long. I moved and it disappeared.)
