It’s no secret that we really like IOGEAR’s simple, yet extremely useful little solar gadget: IOGEAR’s Solar Bluetooth Handsfree Car Kit. We tested the little unit and reviewed it even. We thought so highly of the easy to use and totally functional unit, that we gave it our Golden Bucket Award.

It’s not often that we give out such accolades, but we did. So here’s a quick follow-up to our in-depth review. One of our lucky Editors has been doing a long-term test with the little speakerphone wonder and it finally ran out of power.

Yup. Almost 3 months since the initial plug-in charge and anywhere between an hour to two hours of almost daily regular use (it’s permamounted to the car), we finally had to plug in the unit again for a full charge.

That’s not bad at all. Consider that between the last plug-in charge and now, we’ve been going on full solar power in all weather conditions (cloudy, rainy, spotty sun, full sun, you know…the works). Not only that, but our test unit also had a full week in the glove box while parked at the airport parking lot.

Consider all that we threw it and it finally ran out of juice yesterday after a marathon 5+ hours of use (said Editor was on the road and decided it was good quality time to catch up with her friends and family). Really what can we say?

Wow.
