Personally, I kinda like the Asus Eee Keyboard PC. It’s a keyboard, remote control, and PC all in one. Priced at around $599, this thing has been kicking around for a while now and it finally looks like it’s going to be selling soon. Amazon looks to have a pre-order already.
The concept is pretty interesting. On board, in a fatter than slim keyboard sized formfactor, you’ll find a touch screen (with user programable display) a-la iPhone, fancy rubbery modern keyboard, and oh a nice netbook PC too! You’re getting 2 USB ports, VGA, 1GB RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 16/32GB SSD to boot!
All in all not too bad. The real kicker though is going to be in the form of it’s Ultra Wideband radio that will allow Wireless USB. The application of having UWB on board means you won’t need any wires to connect to an already equipped TV, computer, storage device, etc, etc. Even if your TV doesn’t have UWB built in, if it’s got a USB port like the newer sets, you’ll be able to grab an USB adapter and off your go.
But, we wouldn’t be Tech Bucket Blog without telling you about and old throwback.
To us, this type of thing has been done before. If you don’t remember, IBM made a little computer called the IBM PC Jr. A simple 4.7mhz 8086 computer with on-board video processing and Infra-red based wireless keyboard powered by two AA’s. The idea was to simply plug your PC Jr to your TV set and away you go playing Archon, doing spreadsheets, whatever you could think of.

It even had a built in 5.25″ floppy disk drive. The keyboard was one of those old school clickety-click keyboards with better tactile spring loaded response then our modern day units.
So, while you line up to grab Asus’ home-theater featured, sit on your couch and never get up for anything besides bio and food breaks, Eee Keyboard PC, remember your innovating friend from way back in 1984.
