Burger King, you’re my second favorite spot to get a burger, and number one when I’m out of In-N-Out range (which means, the Double-Double is better than BK any day).
Now comes word that BK is testing out a brunch concept at BK’s in Florida and Massachusetts. If the brunch concept works, BK looks to include it in other places around the country and eventually spread it all over.
Me? I’m totally with it. How many times have you pulled into BK just hankering for a breakfast sandwich?
A lot of the guys here totally dig the idea of a breakfast sandwich for lunch. It’s one of the reasons why you’ll find them huddled over at Jack-In-The-Box for lunch every so often. Sorry Jack, you’re not on my fav list, Carl is though, but no Jack. I find those burgers just too dry for my tastes.
Postings around the web point to BK catering more to women with the idea, especially with “Sex and the City” influencing heavy on women gathering for brunch and BK wanting a piece of that.
Sorry BK, the newsflash is that if we want to have a nice brunch, we’re probably not going to do BK on a regular basis. I doubt my girlfriends would even suggest BK unless they had a killer coupon for it.
Still, I don’t see why once in a while I wouldn’t get my male friends to go once in a while.
A CNN article on BK’s brunch idea talked about the intro of a mimosa beverage (Sprite and OJ) and how children’s groups are crying bloody mary over it. You know, because kids will start to associate drinking with “normalcy” and that’s bad.
You know, to that, I have to say “what???!!!” Has America gotten so limp that we’re screaming over a themed beverage at a fast food joint? To those people I have some info for them.
Kids have been mixing Sprite (and it’s derivatives) with OJ for a long time now. We used to do it and called it a “screw-driver”. I turned out perfectly fine, except for the occasional overdose of beverage followed by a few blurred memories…but that’s only every other weekend!
Seriously? I don’t think it’s that big of a deal and I’m pretty sure kids know the difference. My parents gave me a sip of beer and wine every now and then. My dad would always point out what was good about the beer and wine, while my mom would yell at him for doing it. But she understood, they taught me to appreciate alcohol and enjoy it’s flavor, not just the drunken stupidity that follow it.
I never over did it as a kid and I could easily say no to a beer snuck into some party I was at, because I didn’t like the bitter, water-downed canned well water. Although all the other kids drank it like it was magic juice, I never did.
I think teaching kids responsibility is a part of parenting and I’m glad my parents taught me to appreciate it and pick out what I liked and didn’t like.
Now, I don’t advocate you feeding bevs to a 2 year old and get them skunked…you go to jail for that. But I don’t see what the big deal is so long as parents are responsible enough to teach kids what it is.
Besides, I hope BK has a diet-Sprite version of that mimosa.
Bring brunch to Cali BK! I’m down with it as Jacques from The Simpsons said to Marge: “Brunch? It’s not quite breakfast, and it’s not quite lunch, but you get a good meal!”
Truer words have never been spoken…
