Kirby Super Star hit Wii VC yesterday. Did you get it yet? If you haven’t, you need to. Now.
Platform fun at one of it’s best. There’s a lot to enjoy here, that I had to split the reviews into two parts. Yesterday was all about the main game, the platform adventure part.
Today, is all about the mini-games. There are three that I’ve unlocked, although one of the third is actually a part of the platform game more or less. They’re fun, in a Mario Party 1 way.
Supposedly there are 7 mini-games total, but something tells me folks are getting the DS (Kirby Ultra) version confused with the original SNES version. Whatever, doesn’t matter much as it’s another reason to keep playing Kirby Super Star (which makes your original investment of 800 Wii Points even more worth it!)

The first up is a classic samurai duel type of game. If you watch enough Anime, you’ll know that in it will be a “stare-down” scene. The characters just stand there staring at each other or going into monologues about something silly. This is Kirby’s turn at it.
It’s a reaction time game. You stare at each other, when “!!!” appear on the screen, you hit that button (any button). First to hit the button wins. Oh yeah, it’s two player with the option to play alone against the CPU.

It’s a fun little distraction that for some reason, I really like.
Next up, is Megaton Punch.

Not a simple button masher, this one actually takes skill. You (Kirby) are up against an endless challenge of punching strength. There are three elements to every punch: power, timing, and aim. Each element is broken down into a little timing button press. For power, you have a little power gauge that you fill up and press the button at it’s max. The you get two cross hairs that show up, press the button when the cross hairs line up perfectly for maximum aim. Finally, a pendulum swinging across a circle. Yup, hit the button with the pendulum in the the circle to maximum timing.
Get it right, and you’ll break through the blocks. Get it wrong, and you lose.

Finally, there’s the Gourmet Race. It’s simple. You versus the King in a run-eat-run race. Move through the level eating and avoiding obstacles. Eat and move faster and win for finishing and having the most eaten. It’s a side scroller, so whoever is ahead eats the most too!

The King is fast, so you better be sharp.
Now you’ve got 3 more reasons to pick this game up on Wii VC. Get to it!
