Elevator Action has a little place in my heart. No matter how many times I play it, it’s just fun. I don’t really get why, but it is.
The NES version is an exact arcade translation. What you see is exactly (with maybe some slight color differences here and there) what you got in the arcades.
Premise is simple. You are a super secret agent or industrial spy, does it matter? Your job: to break into buildings and steal secrets hidden behind clearly marked doors. I guess baddies just weren’t smart enough back then to hide secrets.
How else do you explain that all the big bright red doors are where the secrets are?
You can jump, duck, shoot your limitless gun and most importantly, ride elevators and control their up and down motion. You’ll need all your skills to get down from the top and work your way down to your getaway car.

From the classic entrance with grappling hook and your guy shimmying down and the annoyingly catchy tune, Elevator Action is a treat. Each level is a building with its own simple puzzles to solve. Hit the wrong elevator down and you’ll have to go back up and come at it again, or get caught in between a ton of bad guy bullets.

That’s it really, not much to it, but you’ll find it surprisingly fun.
There are few control quirks you should know about. Being a super-secret spy, industrial or otherwise, means there are certain things you can’t do. For example, you can’t walk when you squat. Instead, you have to push up and stand-up and then you can walk again. It’s a quirk in the arcade controls and it carried over to the home port. It takes a whole 2 minutes to get used to, so it’s no biggie.

At 500 Wii Points and available for a while now, you can’t go wrong with this classic arcade and NES game.
Super highly recommended.
