A recent article on CNN.com about iPad etiquette reminded me of my own iPad related incident over the weekend.
I’m being told to include this little statement: In the interest of full disclosure, I have a WiFi iPad. Just got it from my parents as a gift with Dad quickly trying to get it away from me. I think it’s cool, but use it rarely these days and I’m sure my Dad will ungift it from me soon.
This past Monday, shortly after The Baker Family BBQ, we did our traditional family movie night with a few extra guests this year. Nothing special, just “How To Train Your Dragon”. (Fun movie BTW, and I’ll post a review next week).
While in line for refreshments, the guy in front of me proceeded to whip out his iPad and start tapping away at the thing, regardless of who or what was around him. What happened shortly all went in real-life bullet time.
As we approached the snack counter, someone behind us called out the guy’s name “bbbbbrrrrruuuuuuucccceeeeee” and Bruce, iPad held slight outwards, turned around quickly to see what was the deal, and quickly proceeded to knock down a nice lady’s beverage into her popcorn and SnoCaps (I love SnoCaps and got me some) with his iPad.
Lucky for me, I only got a little splash back, but unfortunate for the lady who got her drink in full, chilling, detail. Bruce couldn’t care less about the lady and was more concerned about splash on his iPad.
Yeah…he was a dork.
That wasn’t the end of my iPad adventure at the movies. Nope. During the movie, the folks a few rows down from us thought it fun to use their iPad during the show. Yup. They whipped their’s out and almost looked to me like they were watching a movie on their iPad, AT a movie.
Multitasking or more dork behavior? I say dorks.
I don’t get it folks. Why do we feel the need to whip out these devices everywhere. I’m not one to point fingers, I’m on my iPhone often, but this is slowly getting out of hand, don’t you think?
Jeez…let’s all practice a little etiquette, please?
