We can’t wait for E3 next week. It looks like everyone in attendance will be getting a look at Nintendo’s 3DS next week (still scheduled for release sometime in March/April 2011).

Reports are leaking out that certain execs have seen it and it’s cool. Yeah, I know, we called “pork rinds” on a few rumors yesterday.

Let’s be clear.

We only said that to rumors that the unit is on par with today’s HD consoles (PS3 and Xbox 360) in terms of processing power. That’s still hard to believe, even today as more media outlets have picked up the rumor.

We’re sticking to our guns on that one, but news continues to come in regarding the actual processing power. It seems Nvidia’s Tegra chip is no longer the rumored chip. Rumor mill says it’s another chip made by another Japanese vendor.

*Rampant, pulled out of our butts alert*
We can speculate all we want and we will: We think it could one of Nintendo’s previous dance partners. Non-other than NEC. What?! It’s possible. Nintendo’s worked with them before in the past on GameCube and a bunch of other systems.

Look, the last time Nintendo went 3D on a “portable” system, we got the (literally) red-faced Virtual Boy disaster. I’m praying that it doesn’t turn out that way. Nintendo usually learns their lesson, so here’s to hope.
