Despite reports of Bluetooth 3.0 taking over the world along with the next WiFi protocols, our favorite, misunderstood, underdog Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) keeps winning new applications and supporters.
As we’ve mentioned before, UWB is a technology that supports a variety of protocols. You can run USB, Bluetooth, and even IP stacks over UWB.
USB over UWB is commonly called Wireless USB, and we are all seeing an increase of those products on the market today.
Now comes word of another application.
RFID tags can now be incorporated to transmit signals over UWB radios. How cool is that? More data bandwidth for RFID can only mean good things. More information hopefully leads to more uses.
It’s actually interesting that two technologies that were both considered dead and buried at one point are now working together. Hmm…makes you wonder about all those experts.
