Sound Egg is an interesting little invention. It’s an egg, cut out, and filled with acoustic foam, available comfy leather chair, and full 5.1 surround sound in a personal space.
It might look weird, but in practice, the seat is extremely comfortable and surprisingly form fitting, even for those who are 6 ft 3 inches tall. I half expected to feel claustrophobic, but once you sit back relax and listen to the music (with a screen on available articulating arm), you get sucked right in.
The sound channels work together extremely well and with them all firing and doing their jobs, the sound stage is wider than you’d expect. Hard to describe, but the experience is something like strapping on a nice pair of over-ear headphones and sitting in an acousticly controlled room with a full surround set cranking.
The outside world is noticeably muffled and sound is delivered into a controlled shell space directed right at you. The overall experience is pretty sweet.
Even on a busy show floor, we were able to enjoy a pretty quiet escape and crank the music when we felt like it. On the outside, while you’re experiencing personal sound nirvana, those around you hear a little bit of you’re listening to, but not as loud as if they were free-standing speakers.

There are a ton of available options from the ripping 5.1, leather-stiched, dual sub-woofer, custom color design (listing at around $3,500, with a 4-6 week delivery time) to the simple 2.1 solution (listed around $1,500), it’s a serious upgrade from your current video game/man cave chair.
Every solution includes the impeccable acoustic foam design and injection molded egg shell.

You can order directly from Sound Egg or start looking for them in the Hammacher Shclemmer catalogs.
