Just exactly how awesome is Virtusphere’s giant ball of a controller? Yup. Friggin’ awesome!
The experience left those me, (who lined up in the strangely small line (only about 5 people deep) in a far, slightly tucked away side on E3’s floor) in total and complete amazement and wanting more.
This is probably the best thing we’ll have to an affordable holodeck in our lifetime, unless something spectacularly better happens. Sure, there are other similar set ups designed for much better purposes than gaming. Those use laser panel displays and a whole bunch of fancy equipment that push into the millions of dollars.
Not something you or I will ever, and I mean EVER, get a chance to even sniff at…so forget about ever trying it out for a round of fraggin’ your buddy.
Virtusphere’s creation is downright affordable (when comparing to other similar solutions) at around $35,000 for the home user. And if you’re going to pony up for one, they’ll gladly throw in shipping and professional setup for free.
Okay, so it’s not for the average gamer.
It’s more for commercial applications along the lines of an amusement park ride or a special events/promotional tool.
Going inside? 1,000% pure awesomeness. You slap on headset and play the set FPS that they’ve got. Walking and running (sort of mild jogging) is totally righteous and slightly dizzying, but a quick face plant on the hard plastic ball fixes that.
3D what? I gotchyer 3D glasses ri’ here!!! Forget it. This is so much better than any slaphappy flickering pair of glasses.
We should all game like this.
