PS3 Move got your excited and looking forward to possibly better than Wii motion controls? Splitfish brings home something similar and maybe even more compelling. It’s officially called: Dual SFX Evolution PS3 Wireless Controller. We’ll call it Evolution for short.
Visually speaking, it’s essentially a PS3 controller cut in half and smoothed out a bit. Button wise, things have moved around a bit with the primary buttons lining up along an arc and triggers have like wise become wider and easier to push. You’ll find a d-pad along with dual analog sticks with both turned into a smoothed out, pancaked thumbstick. It might sound and look weird, but in practice, your hands and fingers fall into place. It is really smooth.
Packed on board are also user programable (and downloadable) custom macros. So in fighting games or shooters, you’ll be able to program a variety of moves and killer combos.

On top of all that throw in Six-Axis support and this controller becomes what Sony should have designed and used for the PS3 in the first place. No, we’re not kidding. It’s that damn good.
And it’s all wireless.
Transitioning from your current stock controller to Evolution is not easy. The rep we spoke with said it took him a few minutes to get the feel for it, but a few days of gaming to really get the hang of it. Even if it doesn’t take you that long, you should expect a slight learning curve, but not much.
We tried out FIFA and a shooter and while results weren’t that good with FIFA, for the FPS it took a few minutes to get use to everything and find the buttons. After that, we were fragging with the best of ‘em. Fighters are epically smooth and using the programmable macros is borderline cheating. But, nobody on-line will ever see you using this baby.
Listed at around $90, with street pricing going for around $70-$78, Evolution is a nice investment. Considering Evolution works on PS2 as well and you’ve got a great investment that’s totally utilitarian allowing for better control of all your PS2/3 games.

The Evo rocks, I’m more into the fps dedicated controllers that Splitfish makes, but if you’re into racing, fighting, pretty much anything other then fps titles, this is an awesome controller to compliment your gaming system. We’ve got a couple guys on our team that use them and swear by them. I’ve used it a bit and like the fact that it’s wireless and you have the freedom to hold your hands apart vs in the handcuffed position a standard controller forces plus the all the extra features.
