Every system has its issues. Xbox360 has the infamous RROD (red-ring of death) issues signaling a dead console from a host of issues (overheating being one of them). PS3 has got similar issues with overheating, but pesky upscaling problems when loading a flic to bricking systems during system updates.
It’s a scary world out there and Wii is following right along with its own problems.
First, Wii owners know, that Nintendo Wii is not a quiet system. It’s louder than Xbox360 Fat and PS3 Fat and Slim combined. It’s a loud little bugger from the fans kicking in to the disc drive whirrrrring.
Most Wii owners probably aren’t aware of the issue with their console, as they’ve already turned the sound up or placed the Wii far enough away not to notice it.
But, there is an issue with Wii’s drive causing a lot more noise than it normally should. Just Google “Wii drive noise” if you’re hard-up on reading materials.
The issue appears to be a quick fix (or $75 estimate from Nintendo if you’re system is out of warranty) for the do-it-yourselfer. Instructions on the issue and “fix” are posted on YouTube and included here:
(and it goes without saying, but I make no warranty to this fix and if you do it yourself, whatever warranty you have left with Nintendo is gone. It might not even fix it either!)
If taking apart your Wii is a bit scary for you, then a quick visit to Nintendo.com and going through the tech forums, should get you the help you need to troubleshoot.
If you’ve had it and just want the darn thing quieted down and fixed, then check out this link over to Nintendo’s Support pages that should iron out the issue for you.
Good luck. My Wii is already on its way to Seattle.
