Surprise! Updated iMacs have landed. The “new” features range from updated processors and speed bumps to the down-right surprising if not borderline innovative.
Processor upgrades are to be expected and I’ll leave them alone for what they are. Interesting, but not drool worthy, “I gotta have it so I’m ditching my 2 year old iMac”.
The thing that’s really interesting for me is the option to have BOTH (not either or) an SSD drive and a standard HDD in your iMac at once. The SSD option includes a 250GB model, so it’s nothing to wave off.
Graphically, you’re looking at all ATI (sorry, AMD) chipsets now. No more will you get the underpowered, IMHO, GeForce cards, now it’s full on at Radeon HD, which I really like.
It’s still the HDD option that’s got me though and I’m getting close to wanting to upgrade from my MacBook Air to something sexy like an iMac and the dual HDD option just might ease me over.
I’m thinking a 1TB HDD with a 250GB SSD might be the preferred option for me. For backups, I’ll have to grab something like a 5TB external mini-array though.
