Everyday I lose a little more trust for our elected government officials. I don’t need to tell anyone that these are economically tough times. Government workers, the bees that do the work, and everyday people are losing their jobs. Sometimes they’re just struggling to keep themselves and their families going.
Yet, somehow, whenever you watch the news, you get images of our elected officials strolling around in their Armani’s and Christian Dior (or better) dresses. These are people, who by the way, consistently earn more than 5-6 times average national salary.
How the hell are they to represent the majority of middle class average Americans, when we don’t even dress alike????
NY Representative Rangel stands accused of “ethics” violations. Meaning, he took too much money from too many people and forgot to tell people about it. The guy has a house in the friggin’ Caribbean and he’s the Representative of NY? Last checked, The Caribbean is a little ways out from New York State.
Theft and abuse of power doesn’t just exist on the Federal level. My disdain for elected officials now squarely falls in my own backyard. Bell, California.
Yup, the town where some elected officials make more than $800,000 per year. And as they defend themselves, they claim they would be earning at least that in the private sector. Really?! Then why not go into the private sector??? Or are you just so full of civic pride that you’d rather be giving back to your community at $800k per???
Ridiculous. I’m disgusted with these people from either party. Be they Republican or Democrat, I don’t care for any of them anymore. It’s all about choosing the lesser of two evils now as I can’t see how any of either party can represent Americans truthfully.
Instead, it’s all about using “constituents” as a shield to defend their own status-quo. True reform doesn’t happen until our elected officials, who all claim to serve the public good, make an honest living with a paycheck that is representative of their constituent base. If they’re base makes an average of $25,000 per year, then that’s what you get for serving in office. You make yourself better by making us better. That’s how it should work.
For now, I gladly mail buckets of fish-heads to both Rep. Rangel and those silly elected officials in Bell, California.
