In between by StarCraft 2 rounds of RTS fun, I decided to try to finish up Ace Combat 5 on PS2. Old school flying fun.

If you’ve played this game, then you know that one of the hardest levels to score the coveted “S” grade on is mission 18b otherwise known as “8492nd” where you get a ton of enemy fighters throwing missiles at you every turn you take.

Fly reckless, slow down: instant death.

But finally, I cleared it. How? With the best fighter in the game, the Falken. It’s costs an ungodly amount of credits, which you earn by knocking down enemy aircraft. 800k+ creds for the Falken.

Here’s the thing though, Falken comes with a freakin’ laser beam. Anything caught in the light blows up instantly.

Using that, I blasted away and finished the level with an “S” grade. Very happy.

Oh and let’s clear something up. There’s confusion on just what band does the Ace Combat 5, unofficial theme song. The song referred to in the game, “Face Of The Coin” is in fact “Blurry” by Puddle of Mudd off of their excellent album “Come Clean”.

It’s available on iTunes. Lots of great songs on that album from “Control” to a whole bunch of others. Love it.
