You Android fanboys out there, don’t get all hyped up and excited over news that Android OS is out-pacing iPhone OS in terms of growth percentage. I have to deal with Android lovers here on a regular basis, but I still clutch my iPhone as being far superior to what they use (even though my network coverage stinks compared to their’s).
Yes, Android is gaining, but it’s far from being the leader. Check the growth numbers and you’ll read that it’s a function of “new subscribers” not users overall.
Blackberry is still the leader in smartphones, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. iPhone though is trailing, but gaining steam every quarter.
Android is growing and impressive for the short amount of time it’s been out on the marketplace and considering that Android hardware is finally catching up to iPhone in terms of sexy, drool worthy wanting.
And, let’s all keep in mind that Android’s “growth” is from a ton of hardware devices, where iPhone is just one (or two if you count iPod Touch in there) and RIM has a few out there too.
The folks over at eWweek did a great job in breaking down the numbers and the trend shows a few things.
Mostly, Android isn’t something to brush off. It’s a serious competitor to both Apple and RIM and it’s only growing faster. Where RIM and Apple chug out a new product every 6 months to a year, new Android devices are coming out at a blistering pace of one every 30-90 days. Crazy, but it’s only going to grow.
So, c’mon Apple, throw my iPhone into Verizon so I can switch without having to defect from my iPhone!
