It used to be, not so long ago, that “jailbreaking” your iPhone was a clandestine affair. You’d get routed to a few websites that while good intentioned, always gave me the feeling of being in a not so clean place.
Some of those “instructional” sites had links to some not so grandma safe websites, if you get the picture.
Not all mind you, but a few. Reminded me of shopping for Warez for a little while.
Now, it’s all good and you’ve got your options. Surprising how finding jail-breaking directions is now so much easier.
It doesn’t hurt that the hackers, now programmers, have gotten really good at their craft.
You’ve got options. Download this, expand, plug in iPhone 4 and bingo, done. Even better, you can do it through your Safari browser on your Mac. You don’t even need to do anything besides just a few simple steps.
Scary and sort of a buzz-kill at the same time. I dunno, I kinda liked the whole idea of “sticking it” to Apple in my own little way, now, the thrill is gone.
Still, not gonna stop me for ordering up an iPod Touch when it gets updated in a month or so and jailbreaking the heck out of it.
Check out the iPhone Dev-Team (no relation to Apple’s own internal iPhone group) for full details.
I should mention the folks at AfterDawn who’s original posting inspired me to get itchin’ to jailbreakin’.
