Poor Dell. It’s not been a good week for them. First, they try to buy a storage company (3PAR) and get out-bid by HP, by a lot. Now, they’re much touted Android devices are taking a nasty beating in the reviews.
It doesn’t help Dell that their Android devices are running 1.5 and 1.6 Android OS. Almost inexplicable that you would even release an Android device without the latest and much better running 2.2 FroYo.
Why Kunta Kinte yourself, Dell?
Unfortunately, this isn’t at all surprising with US PC makers. Throw HP in to that pile and you’ll find little in the way of new designs for the consumer.
Forget about innovation. As a word, it’s way too overused by people who throw in unique, invention, patents, and a whole bunch of other stuff into that definition.
For all intents and purposes, companies like Dell and HP have done very little for the consumer outside of copying design trends from folks like Apple and manufacturers in Asia and Europe. Copying, while flattering to those being copied, gets boring after a while.
Still, we do get some friggin’ awesome comments on articles that make laughing at Dell’s pain, completely worth it.
(Editor’s Note: Kunta Kinte is a character from the book Roots. You may know him as Levar Burton in the movie of the book. Awesome.)
