Google’s doodles change every once in a while, but recently Google’s been throwing up a bunch of animated balls on the search page.

I’m sure it’s an advertising gimmick of some sort, but for some strange and magical reason, I’ve been playing with Google’s balls (and I love saying that) all day.

I don’t know why. It’s been strangely mesmerizing and therapeutic watching the multicolored balls scatter as I move my mouse over them. And did you notice that they jump out at you differently depending on where and how fast you poke ‘em?

Distracting? Yes. A few times, I forgot what I was searching for while I wasted 10 minutes playing with the balls. Even more distracting than Google’s PacMan doodle.

Sadly, at around midnight Eastern, I went back to check on my favorite balls and got this:

What does this mean? I have no clue, but I want your balls back up there Google.

(Editor’s Note: Supposedly, we’ll find out today what those balls were for.
