There have been a lot of hockey video games. From C64, Apple II, IBM AT's...you name the system and chances are there was a hockey game for it. But no franchise embodies modern video gaming hockey like EA Sports NHL 'xx series. After the release, the play mechanics, graphics, presentation, everything about the game would be copied by competitors,..... [ read more ]

It's funny when I think about it, but the NES cart, Captain Planet And The Planeteers, probably created more waste in the long term than the game's message tried to eliminate. Why do I make such a nasty comment? The game, in a word, is bad. Really, really bad. It's so bad, the game itself should be considered an absolute waste of resources. Forget..... [ read more ]

Out of no-where Nintendo shocks us with a quality Wii VC release!!! I have to say, Zaxxon? And not just any Zaxxon, but the real arcade original. C'mon, that's freakin' awesome! Way to go Nintendo! Out of the blue, we get a sweet game that I really enjoyed on ColecoVision and so I jumped on it for Wii VC Arcade. How cool is that? The translation to..... [ read more ]

For the average Japanese gamer, strategy games have been around for a long time. Back in the late '80's they were enjoying strategy games on home consoles (Famicom and the rest) way before us. See, back then, US market was an after thought. As any American gamer will tell you, things have changed a little. Japanese companies still rule the gaming..... [ read more ]

With the Gold Medal game today between Team USA and Canada, I thought it only appropriate to review a few classic hockey games on Wii VC. There are a few on there and Konami's Blades of Steel is a great one. A lot of things to like in this game, but get in your way-back machine and dial up NES gaming days. You'll note that gaming back in the '80's and..... [ read more ]

You might not remember it, but "Rambo" knives were all the rage back when Rambo (First Blood Part II) first came out. Only when the knife made it's transition to infomercial TV's back in the mid 80's it completely lost it's movie screen identity. What we did get is a "survival" knife with wet-proof matches, fishing hook and line, key rings with a "saw blade line", and a fluid compass built..... [ read more ]

Check it out boys and girls. That's a and old school hard-drive there. Most everyone out there might not be old enough to remember, but HDDs like the ones we have now used to be huge. I don't mean capacity wise, but a big honking sucker of a almost 15-20 pounds and held a whole 10-20 MB. Yup. If you can find one, an old school Micropolis drive is about..... [ read more ]

I love me some Mr Do! That sounds creepy, but I don't care. It's solid fun game that I've enjoyed playing. In the arcades, at home, on an X-Windows box (called X-Mr_Is), it doesn't really matter. Mr Do! is one of those rare games that shines no matter the platform. It's just plain fun. The concept is simple. Eat fruit, push boulders, kill the baddies..... [ read more ]
