When I think movies and snacking, I go for what everyone else in America reaches for: popcorn.
Often buttery, mostly salty and always tastey. We'll pair popcorn with a cold beverage of choice. The more buttery-salty the popcorn, the better refreshing the beer.
Dunno really how it works and don't care much about it. Just need to know it properly feeds the munchies.

Without naming the brand (it's the one on TV all the time and at your local Wal-Mart stores and "As Seen on TV" sections in almost every gadget/department store), but you know it if you see a few articles down, we took apart on to see what makes it tick.
After our "physical" tests proved inconclusive, we thought our breakdown might shine more light on the..... [ read more ] Dec 10
Remember when Mord bet me that I couldn't go veg for a week? Sometime just before we went to Beijing, I got into a bet with Mord. The bet was simple, eat no meat for a week.
The prize? A meaty burger from The Bay Area's newest chain: Five Guys. Mord's had these burgers from his time in Virginia, but we Californians are still new to the whole..... [ read more ] Dec 10
I have nothing but compliments to Nintendo. Their repair and customer service process is stellar. But, it all comes with a price. An out of warranty Wii repair for noisy disc drive will cost you around $93 (includes taxes and shipping fees).
The experience is second to none. Nintendo communicates with you, albeit through robotic e-mails and messages,..... [ read more ] Dec 10
We finally got a few iPads and promptly gave them away. Our team, purely for karma, "donated" them to our Beijing based web-team. The line to get one in Beijing is long. There's an industry of "iPad" buyers who charge you a cool USD $1,000 to wait in line and get one for you.
Some prices are reported as high as $,1500 USD. You can get on in certain stores for around $700-$800.

I'm an old dog when it comes to storage enclosures. Unlike many, I still remember when USB enclosures were $100+ (and a lot still are!).
These days, sub $50 is about what you're looking at with most coming in at sub $30 for a single drive, simple to use and install drive enclosure. When shopping for these, don't let fancy labels and features mislead you.
99% of the time, these are almost..... [ read more ] Sep 23
(Note: I accidently squished the box, but board still works!)
The folks at Wasabi Gear.com keep sending us stuff and I keep reviewing. Today comes a SATA RAID (0 and 1) card from I/O Crest. A simple SATA RAID card with two internal SATA connectors and 1 PATA/ATAPI connector.
There's a lot of fancy features here for a sub $40 board and RAID performance makes it a solid bargain.

I'm starting to really like those guys at Wasabi Gear. Make friends and get a bunch of gear from them. Along with the host of USB 3.0 gear, we also got a nice 2.5 inch external drive enclosure that's almost fashionable.
This is an USB 3.0 enclosure that supports 2.5" SATA drives that is bus powered. The look is definitely iPod with a shiney-reflective finish on the metal backing and a..... [ read more ]
