We finally got a few iPads and promptly gave them away. Our team, purely for karma, "donated" them to our Beijing based web-team. The line to get one in Beijing is long. There's an industry of "iPad" buyers who charge you a cool USD $1,000 to wait in line and get one for you. Some prices are reported as high as $,1500 USD. You can get on in certain stores for around $700-$800. For the..... [ read more ]

Before I left for China, I was greeted with a wonderful surprise at my front door. Besides the cute UPS delivery guy who rang my doorbell (something about those shorts...), it was my school girlish excitement as I signed for my Kindle 3. I've spent 26+ hours with it on a plane, countless hours in the back of a car, bus, train and other means of transpo with just one thought. Kindle 3 is..... [ read more ]

I knew it would happen. Just like washing your car and getting it pooped by a flying rat. For you East Coast folks, that translates to "rain". See, out here, we don't get a lot rain except for the winter months (at least up in The Bay Area or So-Cal), so getting a car wash today means fresh bird poop, not rain. Get it? No? Doesn't matter. No sooner have I gotten all excited about getting..... [ read more ]

Amazon's new Kindle (Kindle 3) just kept calling me. I saw it everywhere I went, so I was bound to get one eventually. Who knew that my bosses here would so easily see that I lusted so much for a Kindle? Who knew they were such caring bosses that they would purchase me a Kindle to review? Not I. Like I said, there are days when I get some really really nice assignments and these last two..... [ read more ]

I've been dreaming about a Kindle3 for a few weeks now. I honestly thought that an iPhone/iOS lover like me would drool over an iPad, but strangely enough, I haven't. Besides my pilgrimage to the Apple Store down on Infinite Loop to check out an iPad, I haven't given it much thought. I kept asking myself, "why?". Simple, I have an iPhone. I don't need an iPhone fat. I get the productivity..... [ read more ]

The gavel might be just a bit early, but maybe just maybe Amazon and Apple might be guilty of doing a little price fixing. Maybe. They're both being investigated by Connecticut's Attorney General, Richard Blumenthal, for possible unfair business practices (i.e. price fixing, collusion, whatever you want to call it). It's not funny at all, but all I really want to say is this: It's about..... [ read more ]

Sort of shocking really. I was about to finally cave and purchase the new Kindle for $139 (yes, WiFi only for me), only to find it was sold out as early as this past weekend. I can't say I was surprised, but a probably more bummed and disappointed. The price is really good and the 3G+WiFi version (6" eInk screen) is only $189, making it equally wantable. Unfortunately, that one too is..... [ read more ]

Sometimes when you're working on an article (E-Books), you get a case of lazy brain. You start looking and seeing what other, more prominent writers, are saying about it. And you know what? I couldn't have said it any better than Dan Costa over at PCMag.com. So, why bother even writing a story on it? At least, that's what I said during our weekly..... [ read more ]
