Summer movie season is here and in full swing. That means craptacular tie-in games are coming too.
We're mostly subjected to home console games that most folks avoid or rent. Unfortunately, back in the golden arcade era, you couldn't really do any of that.
A small quarter investment into a bad game means a lot to a 10 year old, you know. Especially to those who hadn't yet learned movie..... [ read more ] Jun 06

Back when NHL was on Fox with puck cams, shooting streak tails, rocket sound effects, and glowing pucks, someone thought it was a good idea to make an over the top hockey game.
At first glance, you may have thought the screen shot from NBA Jam. Nope. It's from Jam's (better in my opinion) hockey twin: Open Ice. the full proper name being 2-on-2 Open Ice Challenge, but we all just call it..... [ read more ] Jun 05
Stanley Cup Finals are in full swing this weekend and we couldn't help ourselves looking at a few old school arcade hockey classics.
It would easy to just post something about air-hockey and Super Chexx (bubble hockey). Those two would make solid articles, but we wanted to look at the often overlooked arcade classics.
Hit The Ice totally fits that special little space in our hearts for..... [ read more ] May 23
I have to give credit to our Editors here. They wouldn't let me not look at Elevator Action II (sometimes called Elevator Action Returns) and I'm glad they made me.
This is how you're supposed to make a squeal be it arcade, console, movie, whatever. EAII builds on the original by adding a huge graphical upgrade, story, sound, while keeping the original fun and adding to the original concept...... [ read more ] May 23
When you think AVP, I betcha think about the PC version FPS, movie, or even comics before you think arcade. Way before the beefy PC FPS, movie, and just slightly after the comic that started it all, AVP hit the arcades in a sweet action title by Capcom.
If you blinked, you probably missed the 3 player and sometimes 4 player arcade unit. That's sad, because this game was freakin' sweet. Play..... [ read more ] May 23
Elevator Action has a little place in my heart. No matter how many times I play it, it's just fun. I don't really get why, but it is.
The NES version is an exact arcade translation. What you see is exactly (with maybe some slight color differences here and there) what you got in the arcades.
Premise is simple. You are a super secret agent or industrial spy, does it matter? Your job: to..... [ read more ] May 22
Call me too girly, I don't care. It's not like I don't have my fair share of "Hello Kitty" goods, because I do. For some strange reason, I'm totally into Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man.
Maybe it's the "whagga-whagga" sound or chasing baddy ghosts around, or maybe it was the Pac-Man cartoons from my Saturday mornings, but I like Pac-Man.
My favorite Pac-Man game of all was, strangely still,..... [ read more ] May 22
Basketball games from 8-bit gaming and back tend to be pretty basic. Not a lot of depth as the players basically stand still and kind of throw a brick back and forth. If you were looking for some action, it was usually one-on-one style. Even those games had poor depth to say the least. The "Larry Bird" type player couldn't move, but could sink 3-pointers and jump shots from anywhere. While..... [ read more ]
