Hardware makers know this. If you let someone borrow a prototype unit, it'll get outed for sure. Units get left behind (stolen? I'll leave it alone), lost (stolen?), or just plain spotted by eagle eyed bloggers and media types everywhere.

iPhone rumors broke loose yesterday like a competitive eater at Vegas buffet. Craziness doesn't even begin to describe the unbridled fury and pace with the rumors spread.
The short of it? Apple's ordering up CDMA chips from Qualcomm for Verizon's own iPhone and production is ramping right now. Adding to the fire is even a scheduled release date: January 2011, which is a mere few months..... [ read more ] Jul 22

We have no clue. There's several rumors out there and purely wild speculation, but all Apple's media folks are saying is that it's related to iPhone 4 and it's going to be at 1 Infinite Loop in Cupertino.
Beyond that, anyone else telling you they have inside knowledge is pure rumor in our book. We'll run down just a few.

I'm really not sure where to put this one, but "reports" of Nintendo 3D capable DS unit is starting to heat up as we get closer to E3. We're hearing everything that ranges from "kicks the iPhone's butt" to "as powerful as PS3" rumors.

Color me skeptical, but I'm not buying into this story of "left behind" prototype cell phones anymore. It seems companies are letting forgetful nincompoops carry their valuable prototypes all over the place and said testers are irresponsible enough to leave these valuable prototype units behind.
