Wow, we looked at a bunch of stuff regarding survival gear. My biggest surprise was just how bad the food tasted. Sorry folks, but there's got to be better versions out there. The ones I tried (food bars) were too sugary and loaded with carbs. Instant energy boost, but a big energy drop-off. The dehydrated packs were okay, but too much salt and..... [ read more ]

If you were with us the last few weeks, then you witnessed first hand our go with "survival" food items as well as our test of other essential gear (water filters, survival kits, water pouches, knives, bags, etc). We tried dehydrated foods and plain ol' food ration bars, but after all is said and done, we all walked away feeling one thing. We're..... [ read more ]

This is the last one of our survival gear reviews. We've still got another full day of emergency food packs to taste, but we couldn't wrap things up without looking at our favorite all-purpose pack. If you're in any type of military service, than Bugout Bags are not new to you. In fact, versions of these packs are issued to all of our servicemen and..... [ read more ]

Day 2 of our emergency food taste testing. Not bad so far. Breakfast for me started out with granola today. I love granola. Crunchy nutrition. Eat it by itself, or add fruit and many some milk and it's a great breakfast, lunch, dinner, or quick snack. Healthy nutrition and great tasting that satisfies your sweet tooth at the same time. You can't beat..... [ read more ]

We're into our second day of eating nothing but emergency freeze dried food packs. If you recall, last week, we ate nothing but food ration bars for 3 whole days and it was rough. For contrast, we selected a 72-hour pack of freeze dried emergency food packs from Mountain House, a division of Oregon Freeze Dry, Inc. So, far we're doing much better. I'm not sure if it's because we're getting..... [ read more ]

Bubba likes his Leatherman multi-tool. Even though he lost it, he still did a quick review of it. For me? I couldn't get into the Leatherman style multi-tools. I prefer to channel my inner MacGyver and I stick with the classic: a red-badged, full fledged, Wenger Swiss Army Knife. Nothing fancy, but it's got it where it counts. I've owned mine for..... I carry a knife on me all the time. No, not a massive OJ blade, but something that's part of a mutli-tool. They're very handy for everyday uses from opening packages and letters all the way to doing a quick fix around the house or car. You never really need to go looking for a tool when you've got a multi-tool in your pocket. Besides, ever grab a piece..... [ read more ]

I admit, I cheated. I didn't eat exclusively emergency food like I was supposed to today. I had some leftover chicken soup my mom brought me over the weekend and I dug into for an early lunch today. Not a lot of soup though, just about half a bowl's worth, so I wouldn't say broke rules that bad. Besides, I'd have to clean out my fridge first if I were to lose power anyways! [ read more ]
